If you are in the area, please join us for a wonderful event. The Chrysler Museum has partnered with NSU to bring the tradition of Mbari to Hampton Roads. Norfolk State University’s James Wise Gallery is proud to present the exhibition Black Prometheus: The Legacy of Jacob Lawrence and Global Modernist Art of the mid-twentieth Century.

The artworks in this exhibition are inspired by the work of Jacob Lawrence, the Mbari Artists and Writers Club, and modernist artists from around the world, who sought to move beyond the Western and Eurocentric artistic emphasis by integrating diverse cultures from around the world, blending styles and traditions.

The evening will include the exhibition, performances, an art-making activity, and vendors selling African goods and food.

This event is a ticketed event at the E. L. Hamm Fine Arts Building and James Wise Gallery, Norfolk State University, 700 Park Ave, Norfolk, VA. For ticketing information, please visit nsu.edu.
