Norfolk State University’s James Wise Gallery is proud to present the exhibition Black Prometheus: The Legacy of Jacob Lawrence and Global Modernist Art of the mid-twentieth Century.
The artworks in this exhibition are inspired by the work of Jacob Lawrence, the Mbari Artists and Writers Club, and modernist artists from around the world, who sought to move beyond the Western and Eurocentric artistic emphasis by integrating diverse cultures from around the world, blending styles and traditions.
The evening will include the exhibition, performances, an art-making activity, and vendors selling African goods and food.
